Planning for Disneyworld

Whenever my friends are planning a trip to Disney they always come to me and ask me what my recommendations are.  So I thought I would do a series on planning for both Disney World & Disneyland and then a must do for each park.  Since I am in the middle of planning for Disney World I figured I would start with that:

*Book early-The earlier you book the better.  If you are staying during the busy season I would start planning at least 10 months in advance and book your hotel no later than 8 months in advance.  If you are staying during the off season planning 8-9 months in advance and booking your hotel 6 months & 2 days in advance is good.  If you book through Disney and a better deal comes along you can always change it.  This is actually one of my least favorite things about Disney World but it's a MUST.

*Go Offseason - If you can swing it I always recommend to go in the offseason.  Rates and cheaper and it's a lot less crowded.  My favorite time is late September.  It is Halloween time and they have special parties, rates are great and crowds are pretty much non-existent.

*Get the whole family involved - It is so much fun to research and plan with the whole family.  We will sit down in front of the computer and look up restaurants, look at park times, look at rides & vlogs on YouTube, See Ya Reel Soon is a favorite.  One of the kiddos favorite things to do is walk through our day at Disney.  It is so cute.  We also have our count down that my mother-in-law got me.  Every day the kiddo & I change the countdown

We also usually get the free planning DVD and watch that and talk about all the fun things we are going to do.

*Stay on Site- With a wide range of hotels and different prices I always recommend to stay on site. We got Pop Century for $55 a night once, and they have other cheaper value resorts. You get to book all your dining reservations early, which means you are more likely to get that coveted breakfast with Cinderella or Dinner at Be our Guest, your Fastpass+ reservations early, hello fast passes for Mine Train, goodbye three hour wait in line.   All your purchases can be sent back to your hotel rather than walking around with it all day, the customer service can't be beat, & you get free parking at the parks.  Plus you get extra magic hours.  Which means on a set day the park opens early or stays open late on specific days and people staying on Disney property can get in early or stay late.

*Rent a car - We have always rented a car rather than rely on Disney transportation.  On our second trip to Disney we decided to try the bus for two days.  It took FOREVER.  You don't always get on the first bus and the buses can get really crammed.  Plus trying to get on a bus after the Magic Kingdom closes, is terrible.  Even worse than the monorail.   Plus this allows us to go to Target to get water, breakfast foods, coffee, & stuff for mimosas :)  They don't charge you for parking at the resort or at the parks and it saves a ton of time.

*Bring a stroller - If your kiddo is 5 or less bring a stroller.  It is a lot of walking and no matter how hard you practice with them they will get tired & cranky.  This way you can let the kiddo nap and you can keep going if you want, or when it's late at night and the kiddo is sound asleep and the last thing you want to do is carry a 25lb kiddo to the car.  The hubby & I have a lot of great memories just the two of us hanging out in the parks while the kiddo slept.

*Have a budget - Have an honest budget.  Look at the menus for all the restaurants you want to go to.  Price it out for each place and use the most expensive thing you might eat.  You don't have to stick to what you decide but it gives you an idea.  Include all the little things too like ice cream bars, churros and popcorn, I mean who can pass up the best popcorn ever.  Figure out how much you think is reasonable to spend on souvenirs.    I usually make three separate budgets.  One is a dream one, one is moderate, and one is super cheap.  As soon as we know we are going we create one.  Then I look at our monthly budget and figure out what is doable. I have yet to be able to do the dream one, but that's ok one of these days I will stay at the Yacht Club :)

*Research - I can't stress this enough.  Especially before you book any meals or fastpass+ reservations.  Know the park hours including the extra hours.  When are the parades etc.  I chart it out in a notebook.  Also check out hotels as well, watch the prices and see if they have any specials.

*Pick must do's - You will not be able to do everything.  We have been many times and still haven't done everything.  I recommend that every person in your group pick 3 must rides, 3 must eats, and 3 must watch for each park for every 4 days you are in the park.  I know too many people who say this is the only trip we are taking for years we have to do everything.  Then they get stressed out and cranky and have a miserable time and they spent a ton of money and have terrible memories.  Don't be that family.

*Use Gift Cards for kids-We always give the kiddo a set budget of what he can spend.  Sometimes that's $25 sometimes its $200 (Thank you to the friends & family who gave him gift cards for his birthday one year).  It just depends on our budget as well as if he does his chores.  We always buy him gift cards in that amount and put it in his wallet that I carry.  He knows how much he has to spend and we never let him buy something more than $5 at first site.  We usually take a picture of it and the price then when we are in line or hanging out at the hotel we go through the pictures and prices so he picks only thinks he will really use.  I can't tell you how many times it has stopped us from buying misc junk he won't use that will clutter up the house.  We do the same with us.  We don't usually buy our items until the day before we leave.  We have gone through everything and love what we have bought.  Plus it's a good way to teach him that money doesn't grow on trees.  It can also help you stick on budget as well.  So don't be afraid to get them for yourself. Plus I heard a rumor that if you use your Target redcard to buy a Disney gift card you get 5% off.  I will test it and let you know if its really true or not :)

*This is a side note.  I have read a ton of tips that say hit up the dollar store or Target before you go and bring a bunch of Disney stuff to give to them on the trip.  I am one of those people who is on the opposite spectrum.  You will spend a bunch of money on junk and your kiddo is still going to ask for stuff while you are there.  I say save the money on the cheap junk that will just go into the garbage before you get home and give your kiddos the money you would spend on that and let them buy a few trinkets in Disney.  A car or plane is $5-10 and jewelry or a doll is $5-15.  Plus the kiddo will love having gotten it in Disney.  I remember one year we only had $30 total for souvenirs for all three of us.  Kiddo picked out a book and we picked out a magnet.  We still have both of them and I can tell you exactly where we bought them and the fun time we had picking out the most perfect souvenirs.

*Book a few sit down meals - I know a lot of people who shy away from sit down meals because they think it's too expensive.  If you plan right that isn't the case.  I have done it before when I didn't book any sit down meals and we ate at the counter service and meals that we made beforehand.  It didn't turn out very well.  The counter service food isn't as good but almost the same price as a sit down and bringing food into the parks every day is a pain.  If you are on a tight budget I recommend eating breakfast in the room most mornings, eating late lunch in the parks, and then dinner in the room or what you bring into the parks and bringing snacks.

*Go to the grocery store - It's always a good idea to hit up Target or Publix (or your favorite store) when you get there.  We always buy a case of water, milk, juice, cereal, yogurt, Go Go Squeeze, nuts, pretzels, berries, & stuff for sandwiches if we are going to eat dinners in the room,  ponchos, and of course without fail usually shampoo, or socks that we forgot to pack.  Once it was the kiddos swimsuit.  We usually will eat breakfast in the room and bring water & snacks like nuts, cheese, applesauces, etc into the parks.  It keeps us eating healthier while at the parks.

*Re-watch Disney movies - This is a must do in our household.  About 3 months prior we make Friday nights movie nights.  We alternate who picks the movie and pop up some popcorn and watch our favorites.  It's great family bonding time and really gets us ready for the parks.

These are just my recommendations about what has made our trips more enjoyable and less stressful.  We have done many different trips on a multitude of budgets and this is what we have found to work for us.

The one last thing I will leave you with is RELAX.  This is supposed to be a fun trip, once you get there don't stress, just enjoy being there.

Work outs for the week

No gym for me this week.  I am still having some minor health issues so I wasn't feeling up to doing the gym, but I was active.

We have been running a mile with the kiddo each day after work.  He is doing a really good job.  Plus its really fun to do it as a family.  Our times are:

Friday - 14:14
Saturday - 13:22
Sunday 12:42
Monday - 12:21
Tuesday - 11:46
Wednesday - 11:39
Thursday - 11:29
Friday - 11:54

I am so proud of him.  The first two days he couldn't run the whole thing but by the third day he was!!!  He wants to be able to take pictures at the 5K at Disneyworld so he says he wants to keep a steady pace.  I love this kid.

We finally decided to get on board with everybody and we invested in fitbits.  It was an early Fathers day present for the hubby. So we have been working really hard on getting out steps in every day and it has been really fun.  It motivates you to take the extra steps.  I have now started walking on both my breaks at work instead of just getting on my phone or tablet in the break room.  It also shows me that I don't get anywhere near enough sleep.

And we also decided to get Shape Up through our Xbox one.  This thing is awesome. It really kicks your butt.  We have been trying to do it 3x a week. You can just do quick play or you can do Training Quests which are about 15 minutes of different types of exercise games.  Hubby is doing the cardio training quest and I am doing the Strength Training one.  They have this game called ab blaster, and it HURTS so bad.  But I know that means its working.  I would highly recommend this to anyone.

We have also been doing really well at eating at home.  We have completely cut out fast food and eating out.  Hubby & kiddo want to use it as there rewards for hard work and I was all for it.

So all in all it has been a semi productive week and I am so proud of the kiddo.

Meals are booked

So last Saturday I set my alarm for 2:45 am to book the reservations for our entire trip.  I didn't realize it at the time but I had strep so I am amazed that in my sickly groggy state I was able to book anything lol.  So we got reservations at the following places:

Tutto Italia
Beaches & Cream
Le Cellier x2
Chef Mickeys-Breakfast
The Hollywood Brown Derby-Fantasmic Diner
Be Our Guest-Lunch
Be Our Guest-Dinner
Via Napoli x2
'Ohana-Breakfast

We have 4 new restaurants booked this time.  I am really looking forward to trying Beaches & Cream.  I have heard good things.  The kiddo LOVES Pluto so I wanted to pick a few restaurants with him so that's how we ended up with Chef Mickey & 'Ohana.  Plus I think hubby is going to love 'Ohana. It's going to be the Wine & Dine festival while we are down there so we wanted to leave some time to eat at those kiosks and one day we are going to be doing Typhoon Lagoon & the Christmas Party so we wanted to leave that open for some Funnel Cake and free cookies & Hot Cocoa :)

I wanted to do San Angel Inn & Sci-Fi Dine in but I got outvoted for those two.  I might still try to squeak in San Angel Inn though :)

It's funny because when we go to Disneyland we have a tendency to eat a lot healthier, with one of my favorite meals being the Shrimp Salad at Carnation Cafe,  but when we go to Disneyworld all that goes out the window.

Last weeks workouts

Ugh so I ended up with Strep Throat but I didn't know that I had it so I spend 4 miserable days before I finally went in to the Dr.  Needless to say I spent my Mothers Day in bed with a 103 degree temp.  No Fun.  Now the kiddo has it.  Oh the joys of sickness.

So I thought I would do a quick wrap up of my work outs for last week:

Tuesday - 2.44 miles/30 minutes
Wednesday - 2.44 miles/30 minutes
Thursday - 2.47 miles/30 minutes
Friday - 2.2 miles/30 minutes

I blame Fridays on the Strep Throat.  I wasn't feeling right but I couldn't place my finger on exactly why.  I pushed myself as hard as I could but that was as good as I could go.

We are starting to look into some 5k's for next month.  We have a few more months before the half so we have to get the kiddo training.

Heres to a healthy next week both free of germs and full of healthy foods and work outs.

Disneyworld

We are all booked for DisneyWorld.  Just in time too.  We can do all of our restaurant bookings on Saturday.
We are staying at Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter

It looks so beautiful (I borrowed this from the Disney web page)

I am so excited.  We try to stay at a different resort each time we go.  So far we have done offsite, Coronado Springs, Art of Animation (Cars wing) & Pop Century.  We are only going to be down there for a short time period so we are trying to plan really well.

Whenever you stay on resort you can book your restaurant reservations for the entire trip 180 days in advance.  We LOVE the restaurants in Disneyworld, expecially Epcot.  We have a few favorites that we try to eat at every time (Le Cellier, Via Napolini, & Be Our Guest)  We are going to be down there from 7 days and one of those days is going to be the races so we have to plan out the meals perfectly.  I kind of wish they would just do the meals & fast passes 90 days in advance because that would be 500 times easier lol.  The restaurants we are trying to make it to this time are:

Epcot

Le Cellier
La Hacienda
Akershus Royal Banquet - Breakfast
Via Napoli
The Garden Grill (Kiddo loves the character dining.  Food isn't to bad)

Hollywood Studios
Hollywood Brown Derby-Fantasmic Dining
Sci-Fi Dine-In

Magic Kingdom
Be our Guest

Outside the parks
Beaches & Cream
T-rex (Kiddo has always wanted to go here)
Chef Mickey

I know we won't get all of these, but I am trying to lay them out by each date to figure what is best.  We have to be really careful before the race to not eat anything to new or heave before the race on the 7th.   Plus it's also the Wine & Dine festival so we want to enjoy that. My chart is pretty crazy right now.  I might have to show you guys a before and after lol.

Do you have any must eat at restaurants while you are in Disneyworld?

April Favorites

One of my favorite things when I read blogs is seeing what that persons favorites are for the month.  It can totally turn me on to some new things that I never would have thought to try before.  So I decided that I would like to do that for my blog.  So without further ado, here are my favorites for April

Beauty

#1-Lush Big Sea Salt Shampoo - $27 - I LOVE this shampoo. I have very fine oily hair and this stuff gives me so much volume and I can actually go one day without shampooing.

#2-Origins A Perfect World SPF 25 - $41 - This is my go to moisturizer. I have combo skin with a really dry T zone and this works amazing.  I buy one every year during the VIB sale at Sephora and it will usually last me a whole year.  I have tried a few others but nothing seems to work as well as this.

#3-Origins Skin Renewal Serum with Willowherb - $39 - I just bought this during the VIB sale and I can't express how amazing this product is.  After just one use I could totally tell a difference.  It helps hide pores and some crows feet.

#4-Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Porcelain - $44 - This is what I use everyday.  I have very pale skin and I have a really hard time finding a foundation that doesn't make me orange or white as a ghost.  This stuff is gives me a decent amount of covereage and o.  It's another one of those ones that I buy on sale that lasts me about a year.

#5 Neutrogena Microdermabrasion - $20 at Target - I started using this a few years ago and it is a great reasonable system.  I try to use it two to three times a week and it makes my skin baby soft.

#6 - Posh 3D Blender Sponge - $5.99 - Fred Meyers - I have tried a few other blending sponges and this one works the best.

#1 Shea Superfruit Complex Body Lotion - $8.99 Target - This stuff is great.  My skin is supper moisturized after I use it and the Green Coffee Bean in it does firm up my skin, for a small amount of time, but it does work :)

#2 & #3 - Victoria Secret Pure Seduction Body Mist & Eau De Toilette 3 for $25 - I am not a big perfume girl.  I just like a bit of scent and these do the trick.  This has been my scent for probably 8 or 9 years.

#4 Tree Hut detoxifying Mediterranean Salt Scrub - $8.99 - Haggen - I really like this stuff.  It makes my skin super smooth especially my upper arms which I have had some issues with in the past.  I only use it once a week but it does wonders.

#5 & #6 Candy Mountain Bubble Bar & Fluffy Egg - $7.45 & $5.95 - Lush - My hubby got these for me for Christmas & my birthday and these two are some of my favorites.  I really like the sweeter candy scented ones.

House

#1-Sugar Cookie - $4.99  Fred Meyers - This is my year round kitchen one, except during Christmas when I get the Christmas Cookie one from Yankee Candle.

#2-Spun Sugar - $10 Target - This one is on our coffee table in the living room.  This is my go to summer scent.

#3-Marshmallow Pop - $5 Target ($10 for the bigger one)  I have two small ones for our bedroom

#4- Glade Hawaiian Breeze - $4.99- Target & Haggen - This one is for our bathroom.

Entertainment

The kiddo started watching a few older episodes with us and he wanted to start from the beginning so since we own all the seasons we thought why not.  I love this show.  My sister & I will quote lines from it all the time.

I really like Chasing Life.  It's about a girl named April who finds out she has cancer and it's her journey.  It's a really good show with some tear jerking moments.  It's also kind of speaks to me I think because my dad had cancer so I can relate a bit to some of the story line.

You can't go wrong with Brooklyn Nine Nine.  We have been watching this since it started and really enjoy it.  It's our go to when we just need to laugh.

And of course I LOVE Once Upon A Time.  I want a bit more Swan/Hook and Charming/Snow this season though.

This is the book the kiddo and I read everynight.  This was my book from when I was a kid.  It has a story for every day of the year.  The stories are very old and it's kind of funny to compare the differences between then and now.

Here is to a great May!!!
